I wouldn’t say a conversation on race is the answer per se judging by the current climate. I think we possess enough information (through history, current events and even more so, walking outside and actually meeting people) to come to more enlightened views on race so it’s more of a willful ignorance at this point. You can’t talk to people who decidedly ignore the facts (nor can you make them forget their individual experiences) and then expect them to listen to what you have to say so a conversation on race wouldn’t work, period.
However, to say that America as a collective (or anything as a collective for that matter) is incapable of coming up with anything intelligent to say is mirroring the same ignorance behind racism.
